Physicians

 

We have developed a team of highly skilled OB/GYN physicians/surgeons, nurse practitioners, a physician assistant, ARNPs, and for those of you seeking a unique and memorable birth experience we offer the option of using our nurse midwives who work closely with the physicians and deliver babies at the Family Maternity Center at Evergreen Hospital Medical Center.

 

 

Kathryn Arendt

Kathryn Arendt, MD, received her medical degree, cum laude, from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of New Mexico then completed a two year fellowship in pelvic reconstructive surgery at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle.

Dr. Arendt is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1998. She is a member of the American Urogynecology Society and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Arendt has been a leader at Evergreen Hospital in promoting a multidisciplinary approach to treatment of women with pelvic floor disorders. She has fostered collaboration among specialists and improved learning by starting a multidisciplinary conference to discuss pelvic floor disorders at Evergreen Hospital Medical Center.

She is also a frequent speaker, teaching health care providers and the public about pelvic floor disorders and available treatment options.

Dr. Arendt is the medical director of the new Center for Continence and Pelvic Health at Evergreen Hospital Medical Center. She no longer provides obstetric care but specializes in treating women with pelvic floor disorders and other gynecologic problems.

 

 

 

Michele Delorit

Michele Delorit, MD received her medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences University in 1995. Her residency was completed at the University of Colorado Health Science Center. Prior to joining the Center for Women's Health at Evergreen in 2006, Dr. Delorit spent seven years practicing in California with the Permanente Medical Group. There she served on the Domestic Violence task force to help incorporate screening into healthcare practices. She was drawn to obstetrics and gynecology because it allowed her the opportunity to teach women about preventive health care and healthy lifestyle choices from adolescence through menopause. Her special interests include contraceptive counseling and management, HPV screening and prenatal care/obstetrics. She is happy to be returning to the Pacific Northwest.

 

  

 

Dr. Karen Wells

Karen Wells

Karen Wells, MD, earned her medical degree at Loma Linda University School of Medicine where she was elected president of her graduating class. She also earned membership in Alpha Omega Alpha, the honor society representing the top 10% of the class. She completed her OB/GYN residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Southern California in 1997 and became board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2001. In September 2003, she was selected as one of the “Top Doctors” for Women in Seattle. Dr. Wells especially enjoys the close relationship with her patients. When patients participate in their own medical decisions there is a great exchange of information for lifelong good health.

 

  

 

Dr. Guoli Johnston

Guoli Johnston

Guoli Johnston, MD, graduated from Shangdong Medical University in 1982. She completed residencies both is Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Gynecological Oncology. She was the Attending OB/GYN at Shandong Medical University Hospital until 1996.

From 1996 until 2002, she was a Research Fellow at Colombia University in New York where she studied vascular reconstructive surgery. She completed a second OB/GYN residency program in the United States at Monmouth Medical Center in New Jersey in 2007. She has been practicing at St. Vincent Hospital in Manhattan since completing her US residency.

The Center for Women’s Health at Evergreen welcomed Dr. Johnston to their practice in September of 2008. She practices full scope obstetrics and gynecology including laparoscopic surgery, infertility and high risk pregnancies. She has published papers on the use of hysteroscopies in the detection of uterine cancer and for infertility treatment as well as studies for the Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery.

Dr. Johnston is fluent in both English and Mandarin and welcomes a diverse population to her practice.

 

 

 

Susan Eagan

Susan Eagan, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. provides care to help women achieve female reproductive system health. Her experience extends to evaluation and treatment of pediatric gynecology, fertility challenges, high risk obstetrics, and management of the menopausal transition as well as postmenopausal issues. She has a special interest in urogynecology, pelvic reconstructive surgery and advanced laparoscopy.

As a graduate of Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in 1994, Dr. Eagan was the recipient from the College of Medicine to receive the President’s Medallion, which is awarded to one individual annually for excellence in scholarship, leadership and service. She completed her OB/GYN residency training at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, in 1998. Until joining the Center for Women’s Health in April 2008, Dr. Eagan practiced in Illinois, first on the North Shore of Chicago and later in Champaign, IL, where she was in private practice and served as faculty at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. During her first year on faculty, the medical students awarded Dr. Eagan the Raymond B. Allen Golden Apple Excellence in Teaching Award, which is given to only one instructor annually.

As a Board Certified obstetrician/gynecologist, Dr. Eagan is a Fellow and Diplomat of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has spoken widely on women’s healthcare issues for high schools, health fairs, women’s organizations, hospitals, community groups, and scientific symposiums. She has been actively involved in providing medical care in developing nations and local free clinics since 2004. Travel, tropical and expeditionary medicine are amongst her additional medical interests.

 

 

Gavin Shumate

Having graduated from New York Medical College in 2003, Dr. Shumate completed his residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 2007. Although certain that he would ultimately devote his career to the practice of medicine, Gavin has always been fascinated by the world around him. Prior to attending medical school, he taught self defense and safety awareness to children, traveled extensively, and studied primate behavior in Indonesia.

Dr. Shumate’s clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery and hysteroscopy, as well as general obstetrics and gynecology. He believes that his most important role as a physician is to educate his patients and assist them in defining and achieving their health care goals. Dr. Shumate also believes in viewing each patient as a whole person, taking into account both their physical and emotional well-being when assessing their health care needs.

Outside of work, Dr. Shumate maintains balance in his life in a variety of ways, including spending time with his family, exploring the great outdoors with his dogs, cooking, traveling, and reading. He holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and enjoys the study of diverse cultures and languages. He is conversant in Spanish.
